Jávea with Kids: The Ultimate Family Holiday Guide (2026)

Jávea with kids is, honestly, one of the best decisions you can make for a family holiday on the Costa Blanca. The combination of shallow, calm beaches, a walkable port area, excellent local restaurants that genuinely welcome children, and enough outdoor adventure to exhaust even the most energetic eight-year-old makes Jávea close to ideal for families with young children and teenagers alike.
Here's everything you need to know — from the best beaches for little ones, to rainy-day backup plans, to where to hire a family villa that won't break the bank.
The Best Beaches in Jávea for Families
Not all beaches in Jávea are equal when you've got kids in tow. Forget the rocky coves at Cap de Sant Antoni for your first trip with a three-year-old — those are for snorkelling teenagers. For families, there are two standout options.
Playa del Arenal is the clear winner for families with young children. It's the only proper sandy beach in Jávea, and the water stays shallow for a good 30 metres out. You'll find sun lounger rentals, pedalo hire, a children's play area right on the beachfront, and several chiringuitos where you can grab a cold drink and a plate of patatas bravas without straying more than 50 metres from your towel. The Paseo del Arenal promenade behind the beach has a long, flat pedestrianised stretch that's perfect for scoots and bikes in the early evening.
Playa de la Grava at the port is the second-best family option — the water is crystal clear, there's very little wave action, and the compact size means you won't spend half the afternoon counting heads. The surrounding port area has ice cream shops, a supermarket within two minutes' walk, and the small children's play park at the marina end.
For families with older kids (10+) who want to snorkel, the rocks at Cala Blanca near Cap de Sant Antoni are sensational — sea urchins, parrotfish, octopus, the works. Bring water shoes.

Activities for Kids in Jávea: What to Do All Week
Kayaking and paddleboarding — Half the fun of Jávea for kids is being on the water. Several companies on Playa del Arenal (look for Javea Kayak and similar outfits near the beach entrance) hire out sit-on-top kayaks and SUPs by the hour. Children from around age six can manage a kayak with a parent, and the calm bay is safe in normal conditions. Paddling out to the small caves near Cap de la Nau takes about 40 minutes each way and is genuinely memorable.
Montgó Natural Park — The big limestone mountain that looms over the town is more accessible than it looks. The trail from the Ermita de Sant Joan car park is a genuine family hike: wide, clearly marked, and the first two kilometres to the spring area are flat enough for determined five-year-olds. Bring more water than you think you need, start before 9am in September, and the kids will talk about the lizards for weeks.
Aqua Natura Murcia — About 90 minutes' drive from Jávea, this is the nearest proper water park with proper slides. It's worth the drive on a scorching day when everyone's bored of the beach. Alternatively, Aqualandia in Benidorm (45 minutes) is one of Spain's best waterparks.
Cycling the Paseo — The flat seafront path around Playa del Arenal and along to the port is perfect for family bike rides. There are rental shops near the beach that hire bikes, tag-alongs and children's bikes by the half-day.
The Port Fish Market — The catch brought in by Jávea's fishing boats is auctioned at the small fish market (Lonja) in the fishing port. If you'd like to see it with the kids, ask at the tourist office about guided visits.
Rainy Day Backup: Dénia — Jávea doesn't have a cinema or indoor soft-play. When it rains (rare in September, but possible), the 20-minute drive to Dénia gives you the Toy Museum (Museu de la Joguina) which is genuinely brilliant, and a proper covered market. Dénia Castle is also excellent for children who like clambering on things.
Eating Out with Kids in Jávea
Spanish culture is wonderfully child-friendly — nobody will raise an eyebrow at a toddler in a restaurant at 9pm. Here are some places that work particularly well for families.
La Perla on the port is reliably good, has a kids' menu, and the outdoor terrace means mess is someone else's problem. La Bohème on the Paseo del Arenal does a decent kids' pizza and the gelato counter at the entrance keeps everyone happy while waiting for a table. For a proper Spanish lunch where the kids eat like locals, head to one of the menú del día places in the old town — €12–14 for three courses including a drink, and the portions are enormous.
If you're self-catering (which, honestly, with young children is often the sanest option), Jávea has an excellent Mercadona near the port and a smaller Consum in the old town area. The Thursday market in the old town also sells fruit, olives and local cheese for putting together easy lunches.
Practical Tips for Families in Jávea
Getting around: A hire car is genuinely useful with children — the three zones of Jávea (old town, port, Arenal beach) are spread out. Budget for 5–7 days of car hire. Parking at Playa del Arenal is paid in high season; arrive before 9am or after 6pm to get a spot without circling.
September timing: You've already made a brilliant call if you're visiting in September. The sea temperature peaks at 26–27°C, the summer crowds have thinned dramatically, and beach restaurants still have their full menus. School term has started in Spain (first week of September) so from the 10th onwards, Arenal beach goes from rammed to genuinely relaxed. Read our full Jávea in September guide for more detail.
Sun safety: Even in late September the UV index in Jávea hits 7–8 between 11am and 4pm. Factor 50, hats and a midday break are non-negotiable with young children.
Baby equipment: Several rental companies in Jávea (ask your holiday rental host) can deliver cots, highchairs and travel beds to your apartment or villa. Book in advance in summer.
